Apple launched a new Apple TV 4K streaming box on Tuesday, TechCrunch and The Verge reported. It costs $299, Apple said in its announcement.

The biggest change is voice control, because the box has far-field microphones built in, which means users can talk to Siri without picking up the remote or using a connected HomePod, both outlets reported. The box has three far-field microphones, Apple said, TechCrunch reported.

The new model uses Siri AI for personalization and content recommendations, and TechCrunch said viewers can ask questions such as "Which Apple TV shows won at the Emmy Awards this year?" The Verge said Siri does not respond out loud on the box, so any answers are displayed as on-screen text.

The box runs on an upgraded A19 chip, which TechCrunch said enables various AI features.

The remote is also easier to find, because it now plays a sound when users ask Siri to locate it, both outlets reported. TechCrunch said this helps when the remote gets lost in the corners of the couch or is left in another room.

The Apple TV 4K can also work with HomePod speakers to create a surround sound setup in a room. TechCrunch said users can set up four speakers with HomePod mini 2 or HomePod 2 speakers.

This is the first update since 2022, both outlets reported. Rivals Google and Amazon have also added AI for picking shows, TechCrunch reported.

Preorders opened Tuesday, and the box ships on November 13, both outlets reported.
