President Donald Trump held a campaign rally in Wasilla, Alaska, on Tuesday night to boost Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan, NBC News reported. The Washington Examiner previewed the trip as the latest stop on Trump's midterm tour as he tries to keep Republican control of the Senate.

Sullivan faces Democrat Mary Peltola, a former congresswoman, both outlets reported. The Examiner said the seat is seen as a must-keep for Republicans. It said RealClearPolitics shows Sullivan less than 2 points behind Peltola in the polls. NBC News described it as a close race.

Trump opened the rally by urging voters to back "the real Dan Sullivan," NBC News reported. Another man named Dan Sullivan, a retired teacher, is also running for the seat as a Republican.

"On Nov. 3rd, we're going to send one of the best and most respected senators in D.C., Dan Sullivan, the real Dan Sullivan," Trump said, according to NBC News. Trump called the other candidate "the fake Dan Sullivan" and said he was "put up by the Democrats." Republicans have condemned that candidate as an effort to confuse voters, which he has denied, NBC News reported.

Trump also told the crowd to vote for a ballot measure that would repeal ranked choice voting in Alaska. "It's a scam. It's a Democrat scam, and you got to repeal it," he said, according to NBC News. The measure would also end the state's open primaries, NBC News reported.

Before the rally, the Examiner said Trump was likely to highlight his recent move to fast-track oil drilling in Alaska. That move exempts some projects from environmental reviews, the Examiner reported.

Election Day is Nov. 3.

What we know: Trump rallied in Wasilla for Sullivan, who is in a close race with Peltola.
What we don't: Whether the visit will change the race in the final weeks.
