The ballroom is getting a dose of diva power. "Dancing with the Stars" season 35 continues Tuesday, Oct. 6, with Mariah Carey Night, when couples will dance to songs by the pop superstar, the Staten Island Advance and Entertainment Now reported. Twelve couples remain, and one more will be sent home.

The most recent elimination came on Sept. 29, during Yacht Rock Night. Taylor Hanson, of the band Hanson, and his professional partner, Britt Stewart, went home after scoring 18 out of 30 for their foxtrot, according to the reports. Entertainment Now noted that Hanson had been dealing with an injury.

Hanson was a crowd favorite for many viewers who grew up with the 1997 hit "MMMBop." His exit shows how quickly fan votes and judges' scores can change a contestant's fortunes.

Mariah Carey's music should make for big moments. She has more No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 than any solo artist, with songs such as "Hero," "Fantasy" and "We Belong Together." Her holiday song "All I Want for Christmas Is You" held the record for most weeks at No. 1 until this fall, when Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" passed it.

Here is how the show works. Judges score each dance on a 10-point scale, and viewers vote online. The two are combined to decide who leaves each week. The winners get the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy, named for the late head judge.

"Dancing with the Stars" began in the U.S. in 2005, based on the British show "Strictly Come Dancing." It moved to Disney+ for a season and now airs on ABC and streams live on Disney+, with episodes on Hulu the next day.

What we know: Twelve couples remain heading into Mariah Carey Night on Tuesday.
