There is plenty to watch this week as fall TV ramps up. Here is a guide to the biggest new releases, based on listings from Tom's Guide and ComingSoon.

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, CBS premieres "NCIS: New York," the latest spinoff in the long-running crime franchise. The original "NCIS" debuted in 2003 and became one of TV's most-watched shows, spawning series set in Los Angeles, New Orleans, Hawaii and Sydney. Episodes stream the next day on Paramount+.

On Wednesday, Oct. 7, Prime Video releases Mike Flanagan's eight-episode "Carrie," a new take on Stephen King's first novel. Early reviews praise star Summer H. Howell.

On Thursday, Oct. 8, Netflix drops "Below," a thriller set at sea, which Tom's Guide picked among the week's biggest new shows.

On Friday, Oct. 9, Netflix adds "Animals," a thriller starring Ben Affleck. The same day, Paramount+ debuts "Avatar: Seven Havens," a new animated series set in the world of "Avatar: The Last Airbender."

That Avatar universe has a devoted following. The original Nickelodeon series ran from 2005 to 2008 and has found new fans on streaming. A live-action version on Netflix arrived in 2024.

What is popular right now? On Netflix's most recent weekly charts, the documentary film "Unabomber" topped the English-language movie list, and "Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story" led the TV list, according to Netflix's Tudum site.

Here is a tip: many services post their full monthly release lists at the start of each month, so you can plan ahead and pause subscriptions you are not using.

Prices have risen across most streamers this year, so it may pay to rotate services rather than keep them all.
