Los Angeles opened its National League Division Series with a 5-3 win over Atlanta on Saturday behind Tarik Skubal's first playoff start as a Dodger. Skubal worked six innings, allowed two hits and one run, and struck out seven while averaging 98.1 mph on his fastball in 103-degree heat at Dodger Stadium.

After Atlanta opener Dylan Dodd blanked Los Angeles early, Teoscar Hernandez jolted the offense with a two-run homer in the fourth. Sean Murphy cut the lead in half with a sixth-inning blast, but Kyle Tucker answered with a two-run shot and Max Muncy followed with another homer to stretch the cushion. Ozzie Albies' two-run ninth-inning homer off Tanner Scott made the final 5-3.

Skubal retired 15 straight batters after a leadoff single, reaching 101 mph in the second inning — a mark he had not hit all year. Manager Dave Roberts had told him after a Sept. 25 start in San Francisco to get ready for Game 1. Sandy Koufax watched from the second row as Skubal posted the lowest career postseason WHIP among pitchers with at least five starts.

Backstory: Skubal arrived from Detroit in an Aug. 2 blockbuster and went 5-2 with a 2.61 ERA in 10 regular-season starts for Los Angeles. Atlanta advanced by beating Philadelphia in a three-game Wild Card series; the Dodgers used a first-round bye.

Where to watch: NLDS Game 2 is Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on FS1 from Dodger Stadium, with Blake Snell lined up for Los Angeles.

What we know:
Final is Dodgers 5, Braves 3. Los Angeles leads the series 1-0. Skubal worked six innings; Hernandez, Tucker, and Muncy homered.

What we don't:
Atlanta's Game 2 starter remains fluid after Chris Sale's Wild Card relief work, pending how the Braves feel after the series deficit.

The Game 1 score is locked across ESPN and the national board. Sunday's 8 p.m. ET FS1 rematch is Atlanta's first chance to even the series in Los Angeles.
