The Tampa Bay Rays took a 1-0 lead in the American League Division Series with a 1-0 win over the New York Yankees on Saturday at Tropicana Field. Drew Rasmussen allowed one hit and two walks over eight scoreless innings in his first postseason start since 2022, striking out a franchise postseason-record 10.

Rasmussen carried a no-hitter into the eighth until Austin Wells sliced a two-out double down the right-field line — then was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple. Jonathan Aranda supplied the game's only run with a solo homer off Gerrit Cole, who allowed that one run over five innings in his first playoff start since the 2024 World Series.

Closer Bryan Baker finished the ninth, striking out pinch-hitter Giancarlo Stanton and Ben Rice before Cody Bellinger grounded out. It was Tropicana Field's first playoff game since Hurricane Milton shredded the roof two years ago, and Baker said the sellout crowd was the most electric he had ever pitched in front of.

Backstory: Rasmussen entered with a 1.81 ERA in 11 career appearances against the Yankees — the lowest mark versus New York in 100 seasons. Aaron Judge remained off New York's 26-man ALDS roster while recovering from a right calf strain. Boone populated eight left-handed hitters; Rasmussen still dominated with cutters, sinkers, and a changeup he threw 27 percent of the time.

Where to watch: ALDS Game 2 is Monday at 8 p.m. ET on TBS, with Cam Schlittler lined up for New York and Freddy Peralta for Tampa Bay.

What we know:
Final is Rays 1, Yankees 0. Tampa Bay leads the series 1-0. Rasmussen worked eight; Aranda homered; Judge did not play.

What we don't:
Whether Judge can return if New York reaches the ALCS, and how Boone adjusts after Wells' baserunning mistake.

The 1-0 final is confirmed across ESPN and the national board. Monday's TBS rematch is New York's first chance to even the series without Judge still on the active list.
