Three Dallas shootings kill at least 4, hurt about 15
At least four people were killed and about 15 hurt in three shootings early Sunday in the Deep Ellum area of Dallas, police said. The police chief said there is no sign yet that the shootings are linked. At least one person is in custody, NBC 5 and CBS Texas report, but police have named no one.
At least four people were killed and about 15 were hurt in three shootings early Sunday in Deep Ellum, an entertainment district in Dallas, police said, according to NBC 5, The Dallas Morning News and CBS Texas.
The shootings came on Halloween night, NBC 5 reports. Police responded to shootings on Elm Street, Main Street and Crowdus Street, the News and NBC 5 report.
Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said investigators had no information yet that the shootings are related, but they are still looking into it, NBC 5 says. "This is completely unacceptable for it to take place in Dallas," he said, according to the News and NBC 5.
Officers arrested at least one person, NBC 5 reports. CBS Texas says one suspect was taken into custody, but it was not clear which shooting that person was tied to. Comeaux did not name anyone who was arrested or announce charges, the News reports. Police are still looking for more suspects, CBS Texas says.
The number of injured could change as police learn of people who went to hospitals on their own, the News reports. Comeaux did not release the names of the victims, the paper says.
Comeaux said police had added officers in Deep Ellum for Halloween, which fell on a Saturday, the News reports. One officer was less than two blocks away when the gunfire started, he said, according to NBC 5. Officers also helped revive one injured person, the News and NBC 5 report.
Police are asking anyone with video or photos from the area to contact them, even if they are not sure it shows anything, the News and NBC 5 report. Investigators are also going to businesses for security video, CBS Texas says.
NBC 5 says this is at least the fourth time this year that several people have been shot in the district.
What we know: At least four people died and about 15 were hurt in three shootings, and at least one person is in custody.
What we don't: Who the victims and suspects are, and whether the shootings are connected.
Where outlets agree The Dallas Morning News, CBS Texas and NBC 5 agree that four people were killed in three shootings in Deep Ellum early Sunday and that police have someone in custody.
Where they differ CBS Texas lists the Elm Street shooting as the third of the three, after shootings at a convenience store and on Commerce Street, while The Dallas Morning News and NBC 5 put Elm Street first, followed by Main Street and Crowdus Street.
