The Kelly Clarkson Show won five awards at the 53rd Daytime Emmys on Friday, including the top prize for a daytime talk series, Variety and People report. No other program won more. Its other wins included directing, sound and set design, Variety says. The ceremony was held at the Hollywood Palladium.
The win came after the talk show aired its final episode, People reports. Clarkson announced earlier this year that the show would end after its seventh season so she could put her family first.
Sherri Shepherd won best daytime talk host for her show, Sherri, which has also been canceled, the outlets report. Presenter Greg Mathis accepted the award for her, because she is starring as the Genie in Aladdin on Broadway, People says.
ABC's General Hospital won best daytime drama for the sixth year in a row and took four awards in all, Variety reports. CBS newcomer Beyond the Gates also won four in its first year, including lead actress for Tamara Tunie, her first Emmy. "This is the best 'welcome back to daytime' ever," Tunie said.
Roger Howarth of The Young and the Restless made Daytime Emmy history with the longest gap between wins, 32 years, Variety reports. Star Jones won her first Daytime Emmy after 14 nominations, for Divorce Court.
General Hospital star Genie Francis received the lifetime achievement honor, presented by her husband, actor Jonathan Frakes, Variety reports.
