Charles Leclerc was fastest in both Friday practice sessions at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, according to BBC Sport. Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli was second in the later session, 0.042 seconds back. Max Verstappen was third, 0.189 seconds off Leclerc's mark.

BBC Sport said Lewis Hamilton was fourth, more than half a second off the pace, with George Russell fifth and Liam Lawson sixth. Antonelli still has a path to clinch his first world title this weekend if he wins and rivals finish far enough back, BBC Sport reported. He leads Russell by 102 points in the standings, according to BBC Sport.

Verstappen appeared fastest on the race-simulation runs later in the session, which often give a clearer read than single laps, BBC Sport said. His pace looked more even than Leclerc's on those longer runs. Lando Norris was quick on long runs too but was on the hard tire, so the times are hard to compare, BBC Sport reported.

Ferrari brought a floor upgrade this weekend. Leclerc said the gain felt small but that the car's balance was good. He also said the track surface was very poor and bumpy in the first sector, echoing Verstappen's complaints from Thursday, according to BBC Sport. Antonelli said having both Mercedes cars on the same package helps the team try more setup ideas.

Formula1.com lists official Practice 2 results for the Austin weekend but does not replace a second news outlet's report.

What we know: Leclerc led both Friday practices in Austin, with Antonelli second and Verstappen third in the later session.
What we don't: Only BBC Sport has this practice report among counted news outlets so far; NewsHabit hasn't seen independent confirmation. How the order holds once qualifying begins.
