The Cook Political Report moved 19 more House races toward Democrats on Friday, The Washington Post and Washington Examiner reported. Cook now projects Democrats will most likely flip between 12 and 22 seats on November 3.
Cook wrote that Democrats are favored outright in the 218 seats they need to win control of the House. The Washington Post said that means 220 seats are rated Solid, Likely or Lean Democrat. Republicans are favored in 198 seats. That leaves 17 races rated as pure toss-ups, the Examiner reported.
Six districts moved from toss-up to Lean Democrat. Four of those seats are held by Republican members, the Post and Examiner reported. Those members include Reps. Juan Ciscomani of Arizona, Gabe Evans of Colorado, Jen Kiggans of Virginia and Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin. The Post also noted Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado saw her seat move from Solid Republican to Lean Republican.
Two open seats moved from Lean Republican to toss-up, the Examiner said. One tilts toward Democrat Zach Dembo in Kentucky's 6th. Another tilts toward Democrat Johnny Garcia in Texas's 35th. Alaska's at-large seat, held by Rep. Nick Begich, moved from Likely Republican to Lean Republican. Nevada's 2nd and Texas's 23rd also moved from Likely Republican to Lean Republican, the Examiner reported.
Cook said the Republican path to keeping the House has all but evaporated, the Examiner reported. The forecaster had already moved 11 House races toward Democrats on October 16 and 18 more on October 9. Sabato's Crystal Ball has also moved House and Senate ratings toward Democrats this month, the Examiner said.
