Police in Australia are investigating the reality show Married at First Sight, according to The Sydney Morning Herald, Mumbrella and the BBC.

A male cast member on the coming season made a police report, the outlets reported, citing the industry site TV Blackbox. He alleged that producers found private information about him and shared it with his on-screen bride.

New South Wales police said officers began an investigation on August 24 "following a report of inappropriate content being shared," the Herald and the BBC reported. The police said the case will be sent to the Western Australia police. The BBC said the Western Australia police had not yet received it.

Police visited the set, held interviews and seized phones, the Herald and Mumbrella reported, citing TV Blackbox.

Nine, which airs the show, confirmed the probe, the outlets reported. "We are aware of a police investigation involving Endemol Shine Australia and all enquiries should be directed to them," a Nine spokesperson said, according to Mumbrella and the BBC. Endemol Shine Australia makes the show. It has not responded to requests for comment, the BBC said.

Nine also owns The Sydney Morning Herald, the paper noted.

The show has faced other claims this year, the outlets reported. In May, the Herald reported claims from former cast members of unsafe conduct on set. A BBC investigation found some cast members did not know about their partners' past convictions, the BBC said. The show and Nine said at the time that they had "strong protocols in place to ensure participant safety and wellbeing," the BBC reported.

The British version of the show, made by a different company, has faced its own crisis this year, Mumbrella and the BBC reported.

What we know: Police are investigating a complaint from a male cast member on the coming season.
What we don't: What the police will find, and whether anyone will be charged.
