The chair of the El Paso County Republican Party says he plans to sue Sacha Baron Cohen, according to the Guardian. KFOX in El Paso carried the Guardian's report.

Michael Aboud appears in Baron Cohen's new comedy, "Ali G: Who Iz I?," the Guardian reported. He thought he was taking part in a nonfiction film, the Guardian said.

In the film, Aboud joins a self-defense class run by one of Baron Cohen's characters, a fake former Israeli spy named Col. Erran Morad, the Guardian reported. The class is aimed at "Maga" supporters, it said.

Aboud is later shown taking part in a staged mission with a fake newborn, the Guardian reported. He did not know he was in a comedy until the Guardian contacted him Tuesday, it said.

In a statement, Aboud called Baron Cohen "and his entire film crew … a bunch of liars [who] deceive people to benefit themselves," the Guardian reported.

"They claimed that this would be a documentary about the illegals crossing the border," Aboud said, according to the Guardian.

"No one should spend one penny watching anything he produces or appears in. I plan to sue him," Aboud said, according to the Guardian.

Asked whether he stood by his actions in the film, Aboud declined to comment, the Guardian reported.

The Guardian said Aboud also appears in the film's second trailer, which came out two weeks ago.

The film says Aboud and another man were not "in on it," the Guardian reported. The film's representatives said the other man also did not know what the film really was, it said.

Former congressman George Santos also appears in the film, the Guardian reported. Santos suggested he did not know the film's true nature either, it said.

KFOX said it had reached out to Aboud and had not heard back.

What we know: Aboud says he was misled and plans to sue Baron Cohen.
What we don't: Whether he will actually file a lawsuit. Only the Guardian has reported this so far; NewsHabit hasn't seen independent confirmation.
