Amazon renames Kindle Unlimited as Kindle+ and adds more audiobooks
Amazon has renamed its Kindle Unlimited book subscription to Kindle+, Engadget, 9to5Mac and Digital Trends reported. The price stays at $11.99 a month, and users can still borrow up to 20 titles at a time. The main change is a bigger audiobook library, including some books read by AI voices.
Amazon has renamed its Kindle Unlimited subscription to Kindle+, according to Engadget, 9to5Mac and Digital Trends.
Amazon announced the change in an email to subscribers, Engadget reported. The service is live now, the outlet said.
Kindle+ costs $11.99 a month in the US, the same as before, 9to5Mac and Digital Trends reported. Engadget put the price at $12 a month.
Users can still borrow up to 20 books, audiobooks or comics at a time, the outlets reported. The service still offers ebooks, comics, manga and magazines, 9to5Mac and Digital Trends said. Reading history, bookmarks, notes and saved titles carry over to Kindle+, Engadget reported.
The biggest change is a larger audiobook library, the outlets reported. Amazon says it now has "thousands more audiobooks," Engadget said.
Part of that growth comes from authors who self-publish through Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing, Engadget and Digital Trends reported. They can now add their audiobooks to the service.
Some of the new titles are read by AI, the outlets reported. Amazon's Virtual Voice tool lets authors make audiobooks without hiring a human narrator, Digital Trends said. The tool is free for authors, the outlet said.
Kindle+ will also add more human-read audiobooks, 9to5Mac reported. Digital Trends said Amazon is bringing in titles made through Audible's Audiobook Creation Exchange, starting in the US.
Kindle+ is still separate from Amazon Prime and must be bought on its own, Digital Trends reported. New subscribers can get a 30-day free trial, 9to5Mac said.
Users can read and listen on Kindle devices or through the Kindle app on phones, tablets and computers, the outlets reported.
