Real Madrid beat Leipzig 4-1 to stay perfect in Champions League
Real Madrid beat RB Leipzig 4-1 at the Bernabeu on Wednesday to win their third straight Champions League game. Bernardo Silva, Arda Guler, Kylian Mbappe and Yan Diomande scored. Some home fans again whistled at winger Vinicius Junior, who was taken off in the 70th minute.
Real Madrid beat RB Leipzig 4-1 at the Bernabeu on Wednesday to keep a perfect record after three Champions League games, BBC Sport and ESPN reported.
Bernardo Silva scored his first goal for the club two minutes before halftime, BBC Sport reported. The midfielder joined from Manchester City in the summer. He forced the ball over the line after an Arda Guler shot deflected off a defender.
Leipzig had looked more dangerous for much of the first half, BBC Sport said. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made saves to deny Christopher Nkunku and Romulo.
Guler made it 2-0 in the second half with a tap-in from Mbappe's header across the goal. Mbappe then curled a shot into the corner from the edge of the box. BBC Sport said it was his 12th goal in 12 games this season.
Tidiam Gomis pulled one back for Leipzig. Two minutes later, substitute Yan Diomande, who left Leipzig for Madrid in the summer, volleyed a pass from Brahim Diaz into the top corner, ESPN reported. ESPN said it was his third goal in his last four games.
Diomande came on for Vinicius Jr. in the 70th minute. ESPN said Vinicius again drew some whistles from the home crowd.
"The fans went home happy, watching the duo of Mbappe and Diomande," coach Jose Mourinho said, according to ESPN. He said the whistling did not help the winger. "When you're whistled away from home, it's a source of motivation," Mourinho said. "When you're whistled at home, it hurts you."
Mbappe backed his teammate in comments to broadcaster Movistar. "His confidence will come back, because he has the quality," he said, according to ESPN.
Madrid face Barcelona in the first Clasico of the season on Sunday, BBC Sport reported. Vinicius is suspended for that game, ESPN said. Madrid then visit AEK Athens in the Champions League on Nov. 4.
