Anthropic unveils Claude Duet, an AI agent that checks in before acting
Anthropic announced Claude Duet on Wednesday, an AI agent that watches your apps and sends daily briefs. It asks for approval before big steps like making a payment. It is opening as a waitlist preview for paying Pro and Max users in the US.
Anthropic on Wednesday announced Claude Duet, an AI agent built for professionals and small business owners, The Verge and CNBC reported. It is launching as a "research preview" with a waitlist.
The Verge said Claude Duet is a rival to Meta's Muse and OpenAI's Dots, two other personal AI agents. It comes as a standalone app on iOS and Android and on the Claude website.
Each morning, the agent sends a short brief on the most important items across a user's connected apps, Anthropic said. During the day, it keeps track of those apps and sends a message only when something needs attention. Users can also hand it tasks, from scheduling meetings to building dashboards and making sales forecasts.
"It comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask of it, keeps working even when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf," Anthropic said in a blog post quoted by CNBC.
Before any big step, such as sending a payment or deleting something, Claude Duet asks the user for approval, The Verge reported. The agent is built around Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 model.
Anthropic said a new safety system is designed to reject requests to share highly sensitive data, such as credit card numbers. The company also warned that the early version "still might misread a thread or miscalibrate what's urgent," The Verge reported. It said personal errands like booking tickets are not "quite as strong."
To use it, people need to join the waitlist and be Pro or Max subscribers in the US, The Verge reported. Anthropic said the preview uses the same usage limits as the rest of Claude.
CNBC said Meta's Muse launched last month and rose to the top of Apple's App Store. Meta said more than 10 million people in the U.S. and Canada have set up Muse agents, CNBC reported.
