The Golden State Warriors have begun exploring trades for center Kristaps Porzingis, who is seriously considering his future in basketball as he deals with a health issue, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Wednesday.

If there is no breakthrough in his recovery, stepping away from basketball for good is possible, sources said in ESPN's report. Porzingis, 31, has described his condition as POTS, or postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. ESPN said it can cause dizziness, fatigue and brain fog.

"They're bracing for scenarios, whether that's a trade, whether that's a potential buyout as well," Charania said, as quoted by Boston.com.

The Warriors released a statement Wednesday saying they were "not going to comment on trade speculation or reports regarding his health-related matter or future." The team added, "We are not anticipating Kristaps being around the team in the immediate future."

Porzingis called the team before training camp to say he would take an indefinite leave, ESPN reported. He missed all of camp and the preseason. He was listed as "not with team" for Wednesday night's season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Porzingis signed a two-year, $40 million extension in June, ESPN reported. Only $3 million of his $20 million salary for the second season is guaranteed. That makes the deal close to an expiring contract, which can be easier to trade.

He played in 15 games for Golden State last season after a trade from Atlanta, averaging 16.7 points and 5.2 rebounds, Sportsnet reported. Boston.com noted that he has missed at least 35 games in each of the last three seasons. He won an NBA title with the Boston Celtics in 2024.

Porzingis addressed his health in a post on X last week. "It has definitely been frustrating dealing with some health stuff that you can't exactly pinpoint, on top of injuries throughout my career," he wrote.

What we know: The Warriors are exploring trades for Porzingis, who is away from the team indefinitely.
What we don't: Whether he will return to play, or whether a trade or buyout will happen.
