Michelin's American South guide adds three new one-star restaurants
Two Georgia restaurants and one in New Orleans won new Michelin stars in the 2026 American South guide, Atlanta Magazine reported. The new stars went to spots in Atlanta, Gay, Georgia, and New Orleans. All eight Georgia restaurants that had stars kept them, and four South Carolina spots held their stars.
Three restaurants earned new Michelin stars in the 2026 Michelin Guide American South, Atlanta Magazine and The Post and Courier reported. The guide was unveiled at a ceremony at The Pinnacle in Nashville.
So. Fox in Atlanta and Uberto Restaurant in Gay, Georgia, each won a first star. Atlanta Magazine said they were two of only three places in the seven-state region to get a new star this year. The third was Dakar NOLA in New Orleans.
The guide covers Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, according to Atlanta Magazine. The Post and Courier noted that the event came one year after Michelin first brought its guide to the American South. Actor Charles Esten hosted the ceremony.
Georgia did well beyond the new stars. All eight Georgia restaurants that held stars last year kept them, Atlanta Magazine reported. And 58 Georgia restaurants earned repeat honors. Summerland in Atlanta and Tipsy Thaiger in Roswell earned new Bib Gourmands. That award marks good food at a good value.
Uberto's chef, Ryan Smith, was one of two chefs given Michelin's new Mindful Voices award. It honors sustainability and community work. Uberto gets more than 90% of its produce from its own farm, which runs entirely on solar power, the magazine said.
Not every place moved up. Five Georgia restaurants appear to have dropped out of the guide, Atlanta Magazine said. One of them had closed. Two slipped from Bib Gourmand to Recommended.
In South Carolina, four restaurants kept their single stars, The Post and Courier reported. They are Malagón, Vern's and Wild Common in Charleston, and Scoundrel in Greenville. The state also has four Bib Gourmand picks, including Okàn in Bluffton.
