FX renews 'American Horror Story' for a 14th season
FX has renewed "American Horror Story" for a 14th season, Variety and UPI reported. The news comes ahead of the Season 13 finale on October 29. Season 13 had the biggest streaming premiere in the show's history, with 4 million views in four days.
FX has renewed "American Horror Story" for a 14th season, Variety and UPI reported. The horror anthology series was created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.
The renewal comes ahead of the Season 13 finale on Thursday, October 29. Season 13 opened with 4 million views in four days, the best streaming start for any premiere in the show's history, Variety reported. That came after a three-year break following the 2023 premiere of Season 12, "Delicate."
Deadline, which is owned by the same company as Variety, reported that this is the show's first renewal in almost seven years. In January 2020, FX ordered three more seasons at once, Seasons 11, 12 and 13. That led many fans to think the series might end with Season 13, Deadline said.
Season 13 brings back many of the franchise's best-known stars, including Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe and Leslie Grossman. Joey Pollari, who is new to the franchise, plays a hospice care worker with a fear of the number 13 who looks after characters from earlier seasons, according to Variety. That explains the large number of returning actors.
The season is set mostly in New York City, Deadline reported. It centers on a building called The Apollyon, which has a portal to hell in its basement. It ties together characters and timelines from across the franchise.
"American Horror Story" launched in 2011 and is FX's longest-running hour-long series, Variety reported. It has drawn more than 2 billion hours of viewing since then. Deadline said it has earned more than 100 Emmy nominations and 17 wins.
No cast, setting or premiere date for Season 14 has been announced, UPI reported.
What we know: FX has ordered a 14th season of "American Horror Story" ahead of the Season 13 finale.
What we don't: Who will star in Season 14 and when it will premiere.
Where outlets agree Variety and UPI both report that FX has renewed "American Horror Story" for a 14th season while Season 13 is airing.
Where they differ Variety measures the Season 13 premiere at 4 million views in four days, while Deadline cites Nielsen's streaming chart and calls it Murphy's biggest launch on Hulu and Disney+.
