Christiane Amanpour, CNN's chief international anchor, will leave the network next June after more than 43 years, Deadline and NBC News reported.
"After many months of thought and a few sleepless nights, I have decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years!" Amanpour wrote in a memo to staff on Monday, Deadline reported.
Amanpour plans to scale back her schedule at the end of this year, Deadline reported. She will end her PBS show, "Amanpour & Company," and her daily CNN International series by the end of the year, and will keep a weekly CNN show through May, Deadline reported. She will also continue a podcast, "The Ex Files," Deadline reported. Mark Thompson, CNN's chief executive, wrote that she would scale back her CNN International show to once a week early in 2027, that the program would end in May, and that she would leave at the end of June, NBC News reported.
"Christiane has thought carefully about this decision, and she and I have been discussing it for some months," Thompson wrote, according to Deadline and NBC News. "I'm very sorry to see her go, but I've come to accept that this is the right time for her, both personally and professionally," he wrote, Deadline and NBC News reported.
Amanpour, 68, has covered nearly every major international conflict and crisis of the past four decades, including the Bosnian War, the Persian Gulf War, the US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and Russia's invasion of Ukraine, NBC News reported. In her memo, she said the teams and camaraderie "counted so much, as we together battled to seek the facts, the evidence and the humanity," Deadline reported.
Her exit comes weeks after Paramount Skydance took over Warner Bros. Discovery, CNN's parent company, NBC News reported. Thompson will remain head of CNN under the new owners, NBC News and Deadline reported, and Skydance chief executive David Ellison has promised editorial independence, Deadline reported.
