Alex McPherson kicked a 34-yard field goal as time expired, and unranked Auburn upset top-ranked Georgia 27-24 in Athens on Saturday, AP and CBS Sports reported. ESPN's box score confirms the final score.

Georgia led 14-0 in the first quarter before Auburn scored the next 24 points, AP and CBS Sports reported. Gunner Stockton's 4-yard touchdown pass to London Humphreys tied the game 24-24 with 2:58 left, ESPN's play-by-play shows.

With 58 seconds left, Stockton fumbled at the Auburn 48, and Sylvester Smith-Reed recovered for Auburn at its own 44, the play-by-play shows. A roughing-the-passer penalty on Georgia's Gabe Harris Jr. with 15 seconds left moved Auburn to the Georgia 19 before the winning kick, the play-by-play shows.

Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown ran for 115 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries and threw a touchdown pass, AP reported. Georgia turned the ball over three times and had a field goal blocked, CBS Sports reported. AP and CBS Sports each counted three Georgia personal fouls.

The outlets differ on one streak. AP said Georgia's run of 53 straight wins over unranked teams ended. CBS Sports put that streak at 54 games. The loss also ended Georgia's nine-game winning streak against Auburn, AP and CBS Sports reported.

It was the second straight week the top team in the AP Top 25 lost to an unranked opponent, after Texas fell to Oklahoma, AP reported. The top-ranked team had not lost in consecutive weeks since October 1990, according to Sportradar, AP reported.

"We're going to build Auburn back to where everybody wants it, one game at a time," Auburn's first-year coach, Alex Golesh, said, according to AP. "We helped them," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said, according to AP. "We had three turnovers and critical penalties."

Georgia (6-1, 4-1 SEC) has an open week before it plays Florida on October 31 in Atlanta, AP reported. Auburn (4-2, 2-2) hosts Louisiana State next Saturday, AP reported.
