Zendaya has signed on to star in an untitled science fiction film from writer-director Alex Garland for A24, The Hollywood Reporter and TheWrap reported Thursday.

Garland will direct from his own script, and plot details have not been disclosed, THR reported. The film is expected to shoot in 2027, both outlets said.

The project extends Zendaya's long run with A24, which was a producer on HBO's "Euphoria" and released her film "The Drama" this spring, THR reported. TheWrap said "The Drama" was a sleeper hit that earned almost $135 million worldwide.

Garland also has a long history with the studio, which released his films "Ex Machina," "Men," "Civil War" and "Warfare," both outlets reported. TheWrap noted that he co-directed "Warfare" with Ray Mendoza. He is in post-production on "Elden Ring," an adaptation of the FromSoftware video game set for release on March 3, 2028, TheWrap reported.

The casting caps a busy year for Zendaya. She co-starred with Tom Holland in "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" and in Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," THR reported. She will return as Chani in Denis Villeneuve's "Dune: Part Three," which Warner Bros. releases in theaters in December, THR said.

Her other upcoming projects include playing singer Ronnie Spector in Barry Jenkins' biopic "Be My Baby" for A24 and voicing the daughter of Shrek and Princess Fiona in DreamWorks Animation's "Shrek 5," THR reported.

Garland's past films for A24 have mixed science fiction and thrillers, from the artificial intelligence drama "Ex Machina" to the near-future war story "Civil War." Neither outlet reported who else will join the cast.
