Sachin Katti, who runs OpenAI's computing infrastructure, said Wednesday he is leaving the role after about a year at the company, CNBC and the Wall Street Journal reported.

Katti said in a LinkedIn post that he "decided to move on to build something new," CNBC reported. His last day will be Nov. 15, and he will keep supporting OpenAI as an adviser after that, CNBC and India Today reported.

Uday Ruddarraju, who has been OpenAI's CTO of compute, will replace Katti and lead the company's overall compute organization, a spokesperson said, CNBC reported. Ruddarraju previously led infrastructure engineering at Elon Musk's xAI, CNBC reported. He will report to OpenAI President Greg Brockman, India Today reported.

"I'm proud of what we've built and have total confidence in Uday and the team to carry it forward," Katti said in a statement, CNBC reported. "I'm a builder at heart, and I'm looking forward to building something new."

Katti joined OpenAI in late 2025 to rein in its Stargate data center effort, which got off to a slow start, the Journal reported. He then struck computing deals with providers such as Amazon Web Services, the Journal said.

OpenAI is aiming to spend about $600 billion on computing by 2030, CNBC and India Today reported. It is involved in large data center projects in states such as Ohio, Texas and Georgia, CNBC reported. Before OpenAI, Katti was the chief technology officer at Intel, India Today reported.

His exit is the latest in a series of executive departures at OpenAI this year, CNBC reported. Product and business chief Fidji Simo moved into an advisory role in July, and executives Brad Lightcap and Denise Dresser left the following month.
