Taco Bell and Milk Bar team up on Birthday Cake Empanada
Taco Bell and the bakery Milk Bar are launching a Birthday Cake Empanada on Oct. 15 for $3.49. The crispy shell is filled with cake batter flavor and topped with pink frosting and rainbow sprinkles. Rewards members can get one free as a birthday treat through Oct. 28.
Taco Bell and the bakery Milk Bar are teaming up again on a new dessert, the Birthday Cake Empanada, Delish and Nation's Restaurant News reported.
The empanada will be sold nationwide starting Oct. 15 for a limited time, both outlets said. It costs $3.49, Nation's Restaurant News reported.
It has a crispy, golden empanada shell filled with cake batter-flavored filling, Delish said. It is topped with pink frosting and rainbow sprinkles, both outlets reported.
The dessert was first teased at Taco Bell's yearly Live Más Live event in March, Nation's Restaurant News said.
This is the third time the two brands have worked together, both outlets reported. They first teamed up in 2022 on Strawberry Bell Truffles, which mixed Milk Bar cake truffles with bits of Taco Bell's crunchy taco shell. In 2025 they released Birthday Cake Churros.
"Our fans have shown us they love seeing familiar flavors show up on the Taco Bell menu in exciting ways, and that's what makes partnering with Milk Bar so great," Taco Bell's global chief food innovation officer, Liz Matthews, said in a statement, Nation's Restaurant News reported.
Taco Bell Rewards members can choose the empanada or a Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze as their birthday reward from Oct. 15 through Oct. 28, Nation's Restaurant News said.
The empanada is part of a growing dessert lineup at Taco Bell, Nation's Restaurant News reported. In March, the chain launched dessert empanadas in chocolate fudge and caramel flavors. The outlet said these items are part of a plan to draw more customers at different times of day, especially Gen Z diners.
Online reactions have been split, Delish reported. Some fans called it "very dangerous for a birthday cake freak like me," while others asked Taco Bell to bring back the churros instead. "That sounds nauseating," one commenter wrote.
