Marika Hackman announces new album 'False Dogs' and single '33'
British singer Marika Hackman has announced her fifth album, "False Dogs," which comes out Feb. 19. She also shared its first song, "33," which features a children's choir. She plans her biggest tour of the U.K. and Europe yet, starting in London on Feb. 26.
British singer-songwriter Marika Hackman has announced her fifth album, "False Dogs," and shared its opening track, "33," NME and The Line of Best Fit reported.
The album comes out Feb. 19 on Chrysalis Records, NME said. It follows her 2024 album "Big Sigh," The Line of Best Fit reported.
Hackman wrote, produced and arranged the album herself, The Line of Best Fit said. She plays almost every instrument on its 12 songs, including guitar, piano, drums, bass, mandolin and synth, NME reported.
The album explores the beauty and worries of being in your mid-30s, both outlets said. It looks at the pressure of milestones people measure their lives against, such as marriage, children and buying a home, The Line of Best Fit reported.
"I think this truly is the first record that I have fully inhabited my creative skin right up to its edges," Hackman said, according to both outlets.
She made the album through time experimenting at her studio in East London, followed by 10 days at Big Jelly Studios in Ramsgate, both outlets reported. NME said the sound of the Kent coast can be heard in the background of the record.
The single "33" is about the passage of time from age 17 into her 30s, both outlets said. It features a children's choir.
"'33' grapples with the dull ache of nostalgia, the apprehension of the future and the celebration of the moments in between — keep pushing, it's worth it," Hackman said, according to both outlets.
Hackman has also announced her biggest U.K. and European tour to date, both outlets reported. It starts at London's Royal Festival Hall on Feb. 26, followed by shows in Bristol, Glasgow and Manchester, NME said. The Line of Best Fit said the tour also includes Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris.
What we know: "False Dogs" arrives Feb. 19, and the tour starts Feb. 26 in London.
