Netflix on Tuesday, Oct. 13, released the first trailer for "Narnia: The Magician's Nephew," Greta Gerwig's take on the C.S. Lewis book. The trailer is set to Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven," Variety and Polygon reported.

The movie opens in IMAX theaters around the world on Feb. 12, 2027, with early IMAX sneak previews beginning Feb. 10, and it will stream on Netflix on April 2, 2027, Polygon reported. Variety said it is the first Netflix movie to get a global theatrical release. The film had been expected in 2026, but Netflix pushed it back in May, Polygon reported.

Ahead of the online launch, Netflix screened the trailer for press and influencers at AMC Lincoln Square in New York, where Gerwig was interviewed by Stephen Colbert. She said Led Zeppelin rarely lets its songs be used in films, so she wrote to Robert Plant and Jimmy Page and showed them an early cut, Variety reported. Gerwig has called the film a "rock opera." "Narnia is literally a world made out of music," she told Empire earlier this year, Polygon noted.

The story follows two children, Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, who discover a way into other worlds filled with both light and dark magic. Daniel Craig plays Digory's uncle Andrew, the magician of the title, and Meryl Streep voices Aslan, the lion who sings Narnia to life. Newcomers David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell play the two children. Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan and Ciarán Hinds also star.

Lewis published the book in 1955 as a prequel, set long before the events of his best-known story, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." Polygon said this is the first live-action film adaptation of the book, although earlier Narnia films based on other volumes came out in 2005, 2008 and 2010. It is Gerwig's first film since "Barbie" in 2023.

What we know: The first trailer is out, and the film hits IMAX on Feb. 12, 2027, then Netflix on April 2.
What we don't: How long the theater run will last in each country, and whether more Narnia films will follow.
