HBO has ordered two seasons of a new animated comedy from members of the team behind Archer, Deadline and Variety reported on Tuesday.

The half-hour series is called Merrick & Treves. It comes from Adam Reed, Casey Willis and Lucky Yates. Reed created Archer, the spy cartoon that ran on FX. Willis was an executive producer on that show, and Yates voiced characters on it, both outlets reported. The three also worked together on Frisky Dingo for Adult Swim.

The show is set inside Queen Victoria's "top secret Royal Temporal Constabulary." A team of unlikely heroes travels back and forth through time to try to stop Jack the Ripper, both outlets reported.

The title refers to two real people from Victorian London. Joseph Merrick became known as the Elephant Man after he was put on show in the late 1800s. Frederick Treves was the doctor who cared for him at the London Hospital, both outlets reported.

Reed, Willis and Yates will be executive producers. Joel Begleiter of TFC Productions will also produce, with Kelly Wu as co-executive producer.

"Adam, Casey, and Lucky are exceptional comedic talents whom we have admired for years," said Amy Gravitt, who heads comedy series at HBO and HBO Max, both outlets reported.

The three creators said in a joint statement that they were "beyond excited to have found a home for Merrick & Treves at HBO," according to both outlets.

It is the first animated series for HBO in several years, Deadline reported. HBO's last one was Animals, which ended in 2018. Archer ran for 14 seasons between 2009 and 2023 and won four Emmy Awards, Variety reported.

Neither outlet reported a premiere date.

What we know: HBO ordered two seasons of Merrick & Treves from three Archer veterans.
What we don't: When the show will premiere or who will voice the main characters.
