Rosalía sings an entire song en pointe on 'SNL'
Spanish singer Rosalía performed her song "Reliquia" on "Saturday Night Live" while standing en pointe, on the tips of her toes, for about four minutes. For her second song, "Magnolias," an on-stage rain shower soaked her. It was her second time as the show's musical guest.
Rosalía turned her "Saturday Night Live" appearance into a feat of strength and balance.
For her first number, "Reliquia," the Spanish singer stood perfectly still, but she appeared to be en pointe for the entire four-minute performance, Variety reported. En pointe is a classical ballet technique in which a dancer supports her full body weight on the tips of her toes.
"To make her performance even more impressive, Rosalia sang while on pointe," Just Jared reported.
Her second song, "Magnolias," brought a different challenge. Midway through, an in-studio rain shower poured down on her, soaking her hair and face and her white dress, Variety said.
Both songs come from her album "Lux."
It was the 34-year-old singer's second time as "SNL's" musical guest, Just Jared reported. Comedian Shane Gillis hosted the Oct. 10 episode.
Rosalía rose to global fame by mixing flamenco with pop, reggaeton and electronic music. She has won multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy awards. Her 2022 album "Motomami" was a critical hit. "Lux" pushed her sound in a more classical direction, with orchestral arrangements and songs in several languages.
Before the show, the singer was spotted in New York wearing an unreleased pair of New Balance sneakers, the sneaker site Just Fresh Kicks reported. She is a New Balance ambassador.
Fans online praised the performance as one of the most daring musical moments on the show in recent years. Some compared it more to a dance or art piece than a typical TV concert.
Rosalía is touring in support of the album.
