'Blade Runner 2099' trailer drops; series premieres Nov. 25
Prime Video released a new trailer for "Blade Runner 2099" at New York Comic Con, starring Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer. The eight-episode series is set 50 years after "Blade Runner 2049," in a Los Angeles taken over by replicants. All episodes premiere Nov. 25.
The "Blade Runner" world is coming back, this time as a TV series.
Prime Video released a new trailer for "Blade Runner 2099" on Saturday at New York Comic Con, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Stars Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer joined showrunner Silka Luisa and other cast members on the panel.
The eight-episode limited series premieres in full on Nov. 25, Deadline reported. It comes from Amazon MGM Studios and Alcon Television Group.
The show is set 50 years after the 2017 film "Blade Runner 2049." Los Angeles has been reborn, but not by humans. Replicants, the human-like androids of the franchise, have taken over.
Schafer plays Cora, a fugitive tired of running who takes on one last identity: a Blade Runner. She is forced to team up with Olwen, played by Yeoh, a replicant Blade Runner. Deadline said the pair search for a "cure for all replicants."
The team described the show as a detective mystery, The Hollywood Reporter said. Olwen is "supposed to be looking for human insurgents," the panel teased.
Ridley Scott directed the original "Blade Runner" in 1982, starring Harrison Ford. It flopped at first but became one of the most influential science fiction films ever. Its rainy, neon-lit city has shaped decades of movies and video games. Scott is an executive producer on the new series.
The cast also includes Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben and Matthew Needham.
Yeoh won the Academy Award for best actress for "Everything Everywhere All at Once." Schafer is known for the HBO series "Euphoria," among other roles.
