Solanke's late header earns 10-man Spurs a draw at Man United
Dominic Solanke scored in stoppage time to give 10-man Tottenham a 1-1 draw at Manchester United on Saturday. Bryan Mbeumo had put United ahead in the 73rd minute before Spurs' Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off. Bottom-of-the-table Spurs are still looking for their first league win.
Tottenham Hotspur grabbed a late point at Old Trafford on Saturday, even with a man down.
Dominic Solanke headed in a cross from Sandro Tonali in the second minute of stoppage time to earn Spurs a 1-1 draw with Manchester United, Nigeria's Punch reported.
United looked set to win. Bryan Mbeumo scored in the 73rd minute, finishing a move created by Matheus Cunha. Five minutes later, Spurs' Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off with a red card.
But United's struggles against 10 men continued, Vavel reported. Solanke's flicked header found the bottom corner, sparking wild celebrations in the away end.
Spurs had created several chances before United scored but did not take them. Solanke himself missed a clear chance early in the second half.
The red card made the comeback even more surprising. Tottenham came into the match at the bottom of the Premier League table, still looking for its first league win of the season, Vavel said.
Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi was pleased. "In the first half we had total control of the game," he said after the match, The Guardian reported. "Today we showed we are a team for the first time this season. We played as a team, we suffer, we dominate."
For United, it was another frustrating result. Both clubs came into the game badly needing a win, and both will feel pressure to improve quickly.
The draw leaves both of these big clubs far from where their fans expect them to be.
What we know: Solanke's stoppage-time header earned 10-man Spurs a 1-1 draw.
