Washington State led all night until it did not.

Utah State scored 14 straight points in the second half to beat the Cougars 17-16 on Friday night at Maverik Stadium in Logan, Utah. It was the Aggies' first Pac-12 victory, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Washington State built a 16-3 lead at halftime. Kicker Jack Stevens made field goals from 40, 43 and 50 yards, and running back Leo Pulalasi broke free for a 54-yard touchdown run. It was Pulalasi's first touchdown in nearly two years, The Seattle Times said.

Then the Cougars fell apart. Utah State linebacker Asher Cunningham forced two fumbles in the second half, and both led to Aggie touchdowns.

After the first one, quarterback Grady Brosterhous threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Eli Wood, who dragged a foot as he fell out of bounds. The Seattle Times noted that replays suggested Wood bobbled the ball, but the play was not reviewed.

After the second fumble, by tight end Jack Pedersen, running back Javen Jacobs scored from 2 yards out with 6:22 left. That gave Utah State the lead for good.

Cunningham finished with 17 tackles. The Aggie defense held Washington State scoreless in the second half and to just 64 total yards after halftime.

Washington State also hurt itself with 13 penalties for 133 yards, The Seattle Times reported. Quarterback Caden Pinnick completed 23 of 36 passes for 156 yards.

It was Utah State's biggest comeback since 2023, the school said. The Aggies are now 2-4 and play next at Texas State on Oct. 24. Washington State, now 1-5, plays at Oregon State next Saturday.

What we know: Utah State won 17-16 after trailing 16-3 at halftime.
What we don't: Whether Washington State can end its three-game skid at Oregon State.
