Marvel reveals Zodiac at Comic Con as Avatar leads Friday's lineup
Marvel used the first day of New York Comic Con to announce a new spy series called Zodiac and three more Marvel Zombies specials. It also confirmed Finn Jones returns as Iron Fist. On Friday, fans get an Avatar: Seven Havens panel on its premiere day, plus Violent Night 2 footage and Blumhouse reveals.
New York Comic Con opened Thursday at the Javits Center in Manhattan, and Marvel brought the biggest news of day one.
At its TV and animation panel, Marvel's Brad Winderbaum announced a new live-action series called Zodiac, Marvel.com reported. He called it a "spy thriller" and said it starts filming this spring and comes to Disney+ in 2028. Mashable reported that filming will be in London.
Winderbaum also announced three new two-part Marvel Zombies specials, each set for Halloween. The Winter Soldier comes in 2027, The Fist of Khonshu in 2028 and The Last Guardian in 2029.
The Defenders also had a reunion. Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter and Finn Jones appeared together on stage. Gizmodo said it was the first official word that Jones will return as Iron Fist in the third and final season of Daredevil: Born Again, due in 2027. Mike Colter could not attend.
There were dates, too. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 premieres January 13, 2027, and X-Men '97 season 3 arrives in 2027. Fans also saw a surprise screening of VisionQuest's first episode ahead of its October 14 debut on Disney+. Separately, Bandai Namco said Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom Zero reaches North American theaters in February 2027.
Friday's schedule is packed, according to the official program. At 11:15 a.m. Eastern, the Avatar: Seven Havens panel celebrates the series on its premiere day. CBS's Ghosts panel follows at 1:45 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., the makers of the film Whalefall appear, and AMC+ shows The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and other series. At 5:30 p.m., Universal shows new Violent Night 2 footage alongside Blumhouse's BlumFest.
The convention, in its 20th year, runs through Sunday.
What we know: Marvel announced Zodiac and new Marvel Zombies specials on day one.
What we don't: Who will star in Zodiac, since Marvel shared no plot or cast details.
Where outlets agree Marvel.com, Mashable and Gizmodo all report that Marvel announced a new series called Zodiac and three new Marvel Zombies specials at its Thursday panel.
Where they differ Mashable says the Fist of Khonshu special hints at a Moon Knight connection, while The Direct says it will focus on Danny Rand.
