Disney sends Percy Jackson, Ice Age and Felicity to Netflix
Disney is licensing a batch of its shows and movies to rival Netflix, starting with Percy Jackson and the Olympians and five Ice Age films. Felicity arrives in the U.S. on Wednesday, and Will Trent follows Nov. 3. The titles stay on Disney+ and Hulu, too.
Disney is sharing some of its biggest titles with a rival. The company has agreed to license a long list of shows and movies to Netflix, Variety and TheWrap reported, in a deal that puts Disney programs in front of Netflix's more than 325 million households.
The first wave arrived on Sunday, Oct. 4. The first two seasons of Percy Jackson and the Olympians and five Ice Age movies are now streaming on Netflix around the world, each for a three-month window, according to Variety.
The timing is no accident. Season 3 of Percy Jackson premieres on Disney+ on Nov. 20, and a new film, Ice Age: Boiling Point, opens in theaters on Feb. 5, 2027, so the Netflix runs work like a long free preview.
More titles are coming. The college drama Felicity lands on Netflix in the U.S. on Wednesday, Oct. 7. All four seasons of the ABC crime drama Will Trent follow on Nov. 3, and both seasons of the sitcom Shifting Gears arrive in the U.S. on Dec. 1, TheWrap said.
Next year brings Tracker to Netflix outside the U.S. on Feb. 26, 2027, along with Pixar's Soul and Elio and Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon in early 2027. Older shows including Revenge, Army Wives, Fresh Off the Boat and This Is Us are also part of the deal in some countries, Variety reported.
None of these titles are leaving Disney's own services. They will stay on Disney+ and Hulu, according to TheWrap.
The deal also reaches beyond the U.S. in many cases, with several titles, such as This Is Us, set for Netflix only in certain international markets, so what viewers see will depend on where they live.
What we know: Percy Jackson and Ice Age are on Netflix now, and Felicity arrives Wednesday.
What we don't: Whether more Disney movies or shows will be added later.
Where outlets agree Variety and TheWrap both report that Percy Jackson and the Olympians and five Ice Age films began streaming on Netflix on Oct. 4 and that Will Trent arrives Nov. 3.
Where they differ Nerdist lists Scandal and Arrested Development as part of the deal, while Variety and TheWrap say those shows were already on Netflix.
