Broadway’s fall slate is dense enough that ticket buyers need a calendar, not a vibe. Playbill’s updated schedule of upcoming shows puts Other Desert Cities opening Oct. 18 at the Hudson Theatre after Sept. 29 previews, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Ed Harris, Allison Janney, Joe Keery, and Lily Rabe in Jon Robin Baitz’s family drama. Billy Crystal’s autobiographical solo show 860 opens Oct. 21 at the Imperial after Oct. 1 previews; the piece centers on the house his family lost in the Palisades fire.

Bill Irwin’s adaptation of Molière’s The Imaginary Invalid opens Oct. 22 at the Todd Haimes Theatre, with Brooks Ashmanskas, Rachel Bloom, and Irwin among the company. Aaron Sorkin’s A Few Good Men revival began previews Oct. 8 at the Vivian Beaumont and opens Oct. 29, starring Bradley Whitford, Tom Blyth, and Krysta Rodriguez under Michael Arden’s direction.

Later October previews keep the pipeline full: Wanted at the James Earl Jones starts Oct. 15; Bruce Norris’s Downstate begins Oct. 17 at the Booth; a revised Fantasticks aims for Oct. 22 at the Hayes; and Jamie Lloyd’s Much Ado About Nothing with Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell starts Oct. 31 at the Winter Garden. Tickadoo’s October guide notes an unusual stretch with no Broadway closings all month, so current hits keep running beside the newcomers.

Preview seats are not opening-night seats. Schedules can still shift if a production adjusts tech or illness covers. For out-of-town visitors, the practical stake is choosing a confirmed opening week versus an early preview when stars may still be settling into the run.

What we know:
Four major October openings are on the Playbill calendar between Oct. 18 and Oct. 29, with several more shows entering previews the same month.

What we don’t:
Whether any listed opening date slips after final tech, and how quickly hot casts sell out premium seats.
