Taylor Red singer Nicole Taylor dies at 35
Nicole Taylor, a member of the country trio Taylor Red, has died of breast cancer at 35, Variety, ABC News and Fox News report. She formed the group with her identical triplet sisters, Nika and Natalie. Her sisters announced her death in a video posted on Monday.
Taylor died in late September at her home in Nashville, according to a statement on the group's website, Variety reports. A private funeral was held by her family, ABC News says.
“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our sister Nicole Taylor,” Nika said in the video, Variety reports. “We honestly thought she’d be healed here on earth, but now she’s healed in heaven.”
Nicole was diagnosed with an aggressive form of stage 3 breast cancer in 2022, Variety reports. She first responded well to chemotherapy and was declared free of signs of the disease, but the cancer came back and spread to stage 4, Variety says.
Doctors gave her three months to live after that diagnosis, but she lived for another year, her sisters said, ABC reports. “She even did CrossFit while she was doing her [chemotherapy] treatments,” Nika said, according to ABC.
“She tried not to live in fear, remained really hopeful,” Natalie said, Variety reports.
Born and raised in southern Mississippi, the sisters began performing together in 2010 as Red Roots, Variety says. They released three albums before taking the name Taylor Red in 2018. The trio built a large following on TikTok and YouTube, Variety reports.
The sisters played guitar, banjo, fiddle and mandolin and were known for their tight harmonies, Variety says.
The sisters said Nicole learned about nine months later that the cancer had returned, Fox News reports. Her family created a memorial page, Fox says.
“She traveled, she tried to live life, she worked really hard, she tried to have fun,” Natalie said, Variety reports.
