Brand has been on trial at Southwark Crown Court in London for three weeks, the BBC reports. He faces three counts of rape, three of sexual assault and one of attempted indecent assault, the BBC says.

The attempted indecent assault charge was reduced from indecent assault during the trial, Deadline reports.

The charges relate to allegations from six women spanning a decade, from 1999 to 2009, the BBC reports.

Judge Mr Justice Bennathan instructed the jury of eight men and four women that he can only accept a verdict they all agree on, the BBC says. He sent the jury home on Tuesday and asked them to “resist talking about the case” until they gather again on Wednesday, Deadline reports.

Giving evidence, Brand said he had been “obsessed” with sex in the past but insisted it was always consensual, the BBC reports. He admitted using his fame to “facilitate sexual access,” which he now said was wrong, but denied doing anything criminal.

Prosecutors said the women described him as someone who “didn't listen” when they said no, the BBC reports.

The judge also directed jurors to disregard a 2023 Channel 4 documentary that carried allegations about Brand, Deadline says.

Brand's barrister said none of the women went to the police at the time, the BBC reports. He said a 2023 TV and newspaper investigation had “poisoned the well of justice,” the BBC says.

The judge spent much of Tuesday summing up the evidence for the jury, Deadline reports.

What we know: The jury has begun deliberating on seven charges, and Brand denies all of them.
What we don't: When the jury will reach its verdicts.
