“I’m currently a little bit homeless,” Cage said at the panel, Variety reports. “Something happened to my house in Malibu, so I’m just sort of living in hotels.”

The sinkhole opened near the driveway of his home, Variety reports. The city of Malibu said it formed over two days in early September, measuring 25 to 30 feet deep and 30 by 60 feet wide, NBC News reports.

Seven homes were red-tagged because of hazardous conditions, and 24 more because of the loss of safe vehicle access, the city said, according to NBC. The sinkhole also caused a gas leak, but no one was hurt, NBC says.

Officials have not determined how the sinkhole formed, Variety reports. It was likely caused by Hurricane Marie, which brought large waves and flooding to some oceanfront homes in Southern California in early September, Variety says.

It was not clear from aerial images whether the house itself was damaged, NBC reports.

Cage stayed upbeat at the panel, Variety says. He said he would take his daughter trick-or-treating in Santa Monica, then watch The Shining.

Cage was recently revealed as a star of the fifth season of HBO's True Detective, alongside actor Antonio Banderas, Variety reports in its story. He also plays football coach John Madden in the film Madden from Amazon MGM, Variety says.

What we know: Cage says he is living in hotels after the sinkhole near his home.
What we don't: When he can return home and how badly the house was damaged.
