Netflix announced the feature on Tuesday, TechCrunch reports. The first test under the new tab lets users get picks based on their mood, their tastes, how much time they have, or what is new and trending.

Each theme comes with a preview clip from a film or show, The Independent reports. Picking one brings up a set of suggestions, and further themes narrow the search. A something different option brings up a new batch.

Each title has a Tune Your Recommendations button next to Play and My List, TechCrunch says. It lets users save picks they like or block titles they do not want suggested again.

“Think of AI Discover as our test kitchen: we're trying out new recipes for discovery, and your use and feedback help us decide which ones to keep, improve, or serve up next,” Netflix wrote in a blog post, Deadline reports.

Netflix says the tab runs on a new intelligence layer that responds to what users say in real time and keeps learning, TechCrunch reports.

The tab is starting to roll out in the US to people who use Netflix in English on supported TVs, TechCrunch says. Netflix plans to bring it to more users in the coming weeks. It has not said when it might reach other regions, The Independent reports.

Netflix viewers watched 1.81 hours a day in June 2023, a figure that has fallen to 1.64 hours over the last three years, The Independent says.

Deadline notes that executives have reportedly been overriding Netflix's famous algorithm to boost certain titles or genres.
