Lupin Part 4 tops all Netflix series in its first week
Lupin Part 4 was the most-watched series on Netflix last week, with 10.8 million views, Deadline reports. The French heist drama starring Omar Sy also pushed its first three parts back into the non-English top 10. The Guardian calls the show ridiculously watchable.
Part 4 climbed to the top of the non-English TV list for the week of October 26 to November 1, Deadline reports, citing Netflix data.
Part 1 returned at No. 2 with 5.2 million views, Part 2 at No. 6 with 3.2 million and Part 3 at No. 8 with 3 million, the site says.
The show is still below last season, Deadline notes. Part 3 drew 14.1 million views in its second week, the site says, a sign of the trouble Netflix faces keeping fans keen on returning shows.
The top English-language series was The One About Matthew Perry, a new three-part documentary on the late Friends actor, Deadline reports. It drew 9.5 million views in its first weekend.
Nobody Wants This was second with 7.2 million views, the site says.
In the series, Sy plays Assane Diop, a brilliant thief who models himself on the hero Arsène Lupin, The Guardian reports. The character was created by French author Maurice LeBlanc, who wrote 24 books about him.
Season four opens with Diop facing public notoriety, a nemesis with a grudge and nobody in his corner, the paper says.
“That's why we have four seasons, and we could do 10 more,” Sy said, according to The Guardian. “He's such a joy to play.”
Sy became the first Black actor to win France's César award for best actor in 2012, for The Intouchables, The Guardian notes.
