Guam elects Ada governor and Limtiaco as delegate, unofficial results show
Republican Tony Ada has won the race for governor of Guam, according to Pacific Daily News. Democrat Alicia Limtiaco has won the race to be Guam's delegate in Congress, the paper says, and the other side in each race has conceded or wished the winner well. The Guam Daily Post says both lead in unofficial results that are not final yet.
Republican Tony Ada and his running mate, EJ Calvo, have won the race for governor and lieutenant governor of Guam, according to Pacific Daily News. Democrat Alicia Limtiaco has won the race for Guam's delegate to Congress, the newspaper reports. The results from the Guam Election Commission are unofficial and pending certification.
With all 59 precincts counted early on Wednesday, Guam time, Ada and Calvo had 15,945 votes, Pacific Daily News reports. That was 51.45% of the vote. The Democratic team of Therese Terlaje and Sabina Perez had 14,925 votes, or 48.15%. The Guam Daily Post reports the same totals and puts Ada and Calvo's lead at 1,020 votes.
Terlaje said she called Ada to concede on behalf of the team, the newspaper reports. Earlier in the night, Terlaje and Perez had led by just 80 votes.
In the race for delegate, Limtiaco had 15,645 votes, or 51%, Pacific Daily News reports. Republican James Moylan, the current delegate, had 14,983 votes, or 48.84%. Limtiaco held her early lead through the night, the newspaper reports. The Guam Daily Post puts her margin at 662 votes.
Moylan congratulated Limtiaco in a statement, Pacific Daily News reports. “The people of Guam have spoken, and I respect their decision,” he said. “Now is a time for unity. Regardless of where we stood during this election, we are all one Guam.”
In the race for attorney general, Phillip Tydingco kept his lead over Attorney General Douglas Moylan, the newspaper reports. In the race for the Legislature, Republicans held eight of the top 15 spots and Democrats held seven, according to the unofficial count.
The Guam Election Commission will meet later this month to count ballots cast off the island, Pacific Daily News reports. The results stay pending until they are certified.
What we know: Unofficial results show Ada and Calvo won the governor's race and Limtiaco won the race for delegate.
