OpenAI signed a deal with ADNOC, Abu Dhabi's state oil company, and the AI firm G42, Semafor and Reuters report. The deal was signed on Monday at the ADIPEC energy conference in Abu Dhabi, Reuters says.

ADNOC will use OpenAI's Frontier platform for building and managing AI agents, Semafor reports. The multi-year deal was signed with G42 unit Inception42, Semafor says. It will link choices across oil fields, production, refining and trading, the outlet says. It will run on G42 infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates. No financial terms were disclosed, Semafor reports.

ADNOC CEO Sultan Al Jaber said the deal makes ADNOC the first company in the energy sector to use OpenAI's frontier technology, Reuters reports.

It was the biggest of four deals OpenAI signed in Abu Dhabi, Semafor reports. The Abu Dhabi government is working with OpenAI so AI agents can read some of its rules, the outlet says. The wealth fund Mubadala will use OpenAI's models to look at possible deals.

Asked onstage about his biggest challenge, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman gave a one-word answer, “Energy,” Semafor reports. Reuters also quotes him naming energy as a challenge.

OpenAI is racing to line up investors, including MGX, which is based in Abu Dhabi, Reuters reported, citing sources. The fast fundraising could value the company at more than $1.4 trillion, Reuters reported.

Executives from ExxonMobil and Chevron stayed away from the conference over security concerns, Semafor and Reuters report.

What we know: ADNOC will use OpenAI's AI agent tools across its oil and gas work.
What we don't: How much the deal is worth.
