Once Upon a Farm recalls toddler snack bars over choking risk
Once Upon a Farm has recalled all of its Tractor Wheels toddler snack bars after the FDA warned parents not to buy or serve them, WPXI and Delish report. The agency cited reports of toddlers who could not breathe after eating the bars.
Once Upon a Farm has recalled all of its Tractor Wheels Organic Toddler Soft-Baked Bars because of a choking risk, WPXI and Delish report.
The company announced the recall on Friday. The same day, the FDA warned families not to buy or serve the bars.
The FDA said it had several reports of toddlers ages 18 months to 2½ years who had their airways fully blocked and could not breathe after eating the bars. Some cases needed emergency help and a hospital stay for observation.
When chewed, the bar can form a "dry, sticky mass" that normal choking first aid may not clear, the FDA said. That includes back blows and the Heimlich maneuver.
The recall covers every flavor, package size, lot code and expiration date, Delish reports. The flavors are Apple, Sweet Potato and Spinach, Strawberry, Pumpkin and Beet, and Banana, Pumpkin and Cauliflower. The bars were sold nationwide, online and at stores such as Costco, Target and Walmart.
The company said it acted after three customer complaints. "We know that parents place their trust in us every time they buy one of our products. We fell short of that," it said, according to Delish. No other Once Upon a Farm products are part of the recall.
The FDA says to throw the bars away, while the company says unopened packages can go back to the store for a refund, Delish reports. Customers can also email care@uponafarm.com, WPXI reports. Parents of a child with symptoms should call a doctor, the FDA says.
What we know: All Tractor Wheels bars are recalled, and the FDA says not to serve them.
What we don't: How many children were hurt in total.
