USC upset second-ranked Ohio State 30-18 on Saturday night, the Los Angeles Times and CBS Sports reported. The game was played at the Coliseum in Los Angeles, the Times reported. The win came a week after a poor loss at Wisconsin.

The Times called it the biggest win of Lincoln Riley's tenure at USC and his first there against a top-10 team. Riley had faced talk about his future all week. "I said before this game, that I'm the right person for this job," Riley said, reading a statement, the Times reported.

Freshman Trent Mosley caught a screen pass on the second play of the game and ran 69 yards for a touchdown, the Times reported. Freshman tight end Mark Bowman later went 70 yards on a catch and run, hurdling one defender, the Times reported. Mosley and Bowman combined for eight catches, 180 yards and a touchdown, CBS Sports reported.

USC improved to 7-2, the Times reported. Ohio State fell to 6-2. Ohio State gained 464 yards but scored only 12 points on its first six trips into USC territory, the Times said. USC's defense made a goal-line stand and forced a fumble.

Ohio State was playing without quarterback Julian Sayin, CBS Sports reported. Freshman Luke Fahey made his first start and threw for 260 yards and a touchdown. Star receiver Jeremiah Smith caught 10 passes for 83 yards and a score, CBS Sports said.

USC is now in control of its College Football Playoff hopes, CBS Sports reported. The Trojans play at Indiana next. Ohio State still has to face Oregon, Northwestern, Nebraska and Michigan.
