Inde Navarrette, the star of the movie "Obsession," hosted Saturday Night Live on Halloween night, The A.V. Club and The Boston Globe reported. Singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams was the musical guest, the two outlets said. The A.V. Club said Abrams performed twice.

The A.V. Club's review called it an episode of fun costumes that often felt mistimed and sloppy, especially as the night went on. It said Navarrette, a first-time host, mostly threw herself into the sketches.

One sketch dressed a big part of the cast as characters from the cartoon PAW Patrol, in a spoof called "PAW Patrol: Special Victims Unit," The A.V. Club reported. Navarrette flubbed several lines in that sketch and tried to hold back laughter, the review said.

The review said one stretch of the show was strong. In the "Uninterested Woman Game Show" sketch, Navarrette, Jane Wickline and Sarah Sherman played three men who would not take the hint that a married gay woman, played by Saidah Belo-Osagie, wanted nothing more than polite conversation. The A.V. Club said the cast nailed the best lines.

In a restaurant sketch built around Ashley Padilla, Padilla nearly broke a couple of times, The A.V. Club said. The review also praised Ben Marshall, who played an odd version of Pennywise the Clown on Weekend Update.

The cast added one last Halloween touch during the goodnights, The A.V. Club reported. Tommy Brennan dressed as Sarah Sherman, Mikey Day wore a wig from one of Padilla's famous sketches, and Marcello Hernández appeared to be dressed as Jane Wickline, the review said.

Druski will host next week, with the Strokes as the musical guest, The A.V. Club said.

What we know: Navarrette hosted, and Abrams performed, on the Halloween episode.
What we don't: Whether a sketch was cut late in the show, which The A.V. Club said was hard to tell.
