Chicago's Halloween rain should mostly fall on Saturday morning, the National Weather Service says. Its forecast for the city was last updated at 3:30 p.m. Central time on Friday. NBC Chicago and FOX 32 Chicago gave similar outlooks.

Here is what the forecast says. Showers are likely on Saturday, mainly before 10 in the morning. The chance of rain is 70%, with a tenth to a quarter of an inch possible. Skies stay cloudy, with a high near 62 and a southeast wind around 10 mph. For Saturday night, the service gives only a 20% chance of showers, ending overnight. It expects a low around 55.

Local forecasters agree the evening should be calmer. NBC Chicago meteorologist Pete Sack said the rain should move out by mid-afternoon. He said drizzle is possible as trick-or-treating begins. He expects highs in the upper 50s to low 60s. NBC Chicago also quoted the weather service: "Expect on-and-off sprinkles/drizzles in spots into evening." FOX 32 said on Thursday that there is a reasonable chance the rain moves out by early evening. It said temperatures will fall into the 50s after dark.

Families heading out should still plan for damp ground and a cool night. A rain jacket or a costume that can handle a sprinkle is a good idea. Friday itself stays gray, with a 20% chance of showers this afternoon and a 40% chance tonight. Sunday looks mostly dry, with a high near 65 and a 20% chance of showers in the afternoon.

What we know: The weather service expects Saturday's rain mostly in the morning, with only a slight chance at night.
What we don't: Whether stray sprinkles will linger into the evening in some neighborhoods.
