The European Broadcasting Union says 36 broadcasters will take part in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest in Burgas, Bulgaria, Reuters and Politico Europe report. That is one more than this year. The semifinals are May 11 and 13, and the final is May 15, the EBU says.

Canada's CBC/Radio-Canada will compete for the first time, and North Macedonia returns after four years away, the EBU says. Israel's broadcaster KAN has confirmed it will take part, Reuters reports. Five countries skipped this year's contest after calling for Israel's expulsion over its military offensive in Gaza, Reuters reports. Israel said at the time that it faced a global smear campaign.

Ireland's RTÉ said in September that its position "remains unchanged," citing the loss of life in Gaza and the humanitarian crisis there. It said it remains "deeply concerned" that international journalists are still denied independent access to Gaza.

In the Netherlands, NPO said Tuesday that it would not take part, AFP reports. "We have known for some time that Israel's participation elicits various reactions in society and causes discussion and division," media director Jurre Bosman said. Chairman Jet de Ranitz said "it is currently too early to participate."

Spain's RTVE and Slovenia's RTVSLO have until December to decide "in recognition of the complexity of the matter," the EBU says. Politico Europe reports Czechia will not take part for money reasons.

EBU contest director Martin Green said the group respects "the strength of feeling" behind the Dutch decision. "In a world that can feel increasingly divided, it brings audiences together through music," he said of the contest.

What we know: The EBU has confirmed 36 broadcasters, including Israel, for 2027.
What we don't: Whether Spain and Slovenia will take part.
