Apple announced a new high-end MacBook Pro with a tandem PROOLED XDR display that supports touch gestures, MacRumors reports. The line comes in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. Pricing starts at $2,899 for the 14-inch model and $3,399 for the 16-inch model, MacRumors says. Preorders are available now, with a launch on Friday, November 6.

Macworld's live blog quotes Apple hardware chief John Ternus saying, "You've gotta touch it to believe it," and notes the machine is called MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display. MacRumors says the laptop is slimmer and lighter at about three pounds, drops the notch for a small Dynamic Island, and uses the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips as the MacBook Pro models announced in March. It supports up to 128GB of unified memory and a new six-speaker sound system. Apple discontinued the prior mini-LED MacBook Pro models, MacRumors reports.

MacRumors also says preorders opened Wednesday for an OLED iPad mini starting at $699, an M6 iMac starting at $1,499, and an M6 MacBook Pro starting at $1,999, with availability beginning Friday, November 6. Those products were announced earlier in the week. Macworld covered the same week of releases and the Los Angeles "Pro and tell" event.

What we don't know yet: Apple's own Newsroom page was thin or hard to load in our checks, so official Apple wording beyond MacRumors and Macworld is limited here. Battery life, full display specs, and long-term macOS touch software details were not fully laid out in the counted pages we used.
