Studio estimates on Sunday put Clayface at No. 1 at the North American box office with about $24 million from 3,458 theaters, Variety reported. The James Watkins film follows Batman foe Matt Hagen, played by Tom Rhys Harries. Variety said it cost about $44 million to make. TheWrap put the budget near $40 million.

Clayface took in $10.4 million on Friday, Variety and TheWrap reported. Strong reviews and an A-minus CinemaScore should help it hold through Halloween, TheWrap said. That would give Warner Bros. a modest mid-budget win after a hard year at the box office, TheWrap added.

A24's Elizabeth Holmes film You Can See Everything landed second. Variety said rival studio estimates had it near $20 million by Sunday after a $6.14 million Friday from 2,655 theaters, up from 855 theaters at opening. TheWrap also put the wider second weekend near $20 million, which would lift the US total near $45 million.

Laika's stop-motion Wildwood opened third. Variety said Friday's $4.28 million pointed to about $11.2 million by Sunday. TheWrap estimated an $11 million to $12 million opening. Black Bear's Wicker and Legendary's Street Fighter sat further down the early chart, Variety and TheWrap reported.

All of these weekend figures are studio estimates, not final audited totals. Final counts usually firm up early in the week once theater chains finish reporting their sales.

This update follows an earlier NewsHabit card on Clayface's Saturday box office lead over the weekend field.
