American Airlines said a vendor issue blocked some customers from booking and checking in Friday. The Dallas Morning News reported the airline's statement. "A vendor issue is affecting some customers' ability to book and check in for flights," American said. "We're working with the technology provider to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Customers traveling today should plan to arrive at the airport early."

Just after half past two in the afternoon, American said systems were operating normally again. The Dallas Morning News reported that update. FlightAware data cited in local coverage including WFAA showed about 756 American flights delayed nationwide. That was roughly a fifth of the airline's schedule. Only a handful of flights were canceled. At DFW, FlightAware showed more than 200 American delays by early afternoon, the Dallas Morning News said.

Southwest also logged heavy delays the same day. The Dallas Morning News reported Southwest said its delays were not from the same tech outage. Southwest pointed to air traffic congestion instead. Combined, American and Southwest had more than 2,000 delays nationwide Friday, FlightAware figures in the Dallas Morning News showed.

DFW is American's largest hub, so local delays drew quick notice in North Texas. Gate agents and app check-in both depend on the same vendor stack when booking tools fail. Travelers who printed boarding passes early were less stuck, local reports said. American did not name the vendor in its public notes. WFAA and the Dallas Morning News kept the focus on arrive-early advice.

What we know: A vendor outage disrupted American check-in and booking, delayed hundreds of flights, and was later marked resolved.
What we don't: How long residual delays lasted into the evening, and whether the vendor will be named.
