Storm Boelo's wind alert was raised to amber for much of Scotland, the BBC, STV News and the Met Office reported. The amber warning covers the mainland and the Western Isles from 9 at night Saturday until 9 at night Sunday, STV News and the BBC said. Orkney stays on yellow. Parts of northern England and Northern Ireland are also in the amber zone, the Met Office said. Wider yellow warnings stretch further south into England and cover all of Northern Ireland, the Met Office reported.

Forecasters expect fairly wide gusts of 60 to 70 mph. Gusts to 80 mph are possible on exposed coasts, the BBC, STV News and the Met Office reported. Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible, STV News said. Some damage to buildings and trees is possible. That includes tiles blown from roofs and large branches down, STV News reported. The strongest winds will hit western Scotland and the far north of Northern Ireland first on Saturday evening. They will then spread east overnight and through Sunday, the reports said.

Road, rail, air and ferry delays are expected, Transport Scotland warned, per the BBC. Network Rail said some lines in the west and north will close from Saturday night. Trains will run at lower speeds elsewhere, the BBC reported. Police Scotland urged people to ask if trips were "really necessary," the BBC said. Storm Austen, the season's first named storm, was moving into the Low Countries after wet and windy weather, the Met Office said.
