DC's Clayface is on track to open at No 1 with about $23 million to $25 million, according to Deadline. The R-rated film took an estimated $9.5 million on Friday, including previews, at 3,458 theaters, Deadline reported.

Warner Brothers had projected a domestic launch between $25 million and $30 million, The Hollywood Reporter reported before the weekend. Deadline's Friday night estimate sits at the low end of that range or just under it. The film cost about $44 million before marketing, Deadline said. Tom Rhys Harries stars as actor Matt Hagen. James Watkins directed from a Mike Flanagan screenplay.

A24's documentary You Can See Everything, about Elizabeth Holmes, is pacing toward about $19 million or more in its second wide weekend after expanding to about 2,655 theaters, Deadline said. It had a $5.8 million Friday, up 5% from a week earlier. Some rivals think $20 million or more is possible, Deadline reported.

Clayface held a mid-70s Rotten Tomatoes critics score and strong audience marks in early tracking, Deadline said. Thursday previews were about $3.5 million. Laika's stop-motion film Wildwood was tracking near $11 million for third place, Deadline reported.

Deadline said Clayface would mark a solid mid-October genre open if the $23 million to $25 million range holds. The Hollywood Reporter framed the weekend as a test for James Gunn and Peter Safran's lower-budget DC slate after Superman's strong start and Supergirl's softer run.
